Thesis and Abstract

America was unjustified in dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because it not only killed thousands of innocent civilians but, created longterm effects such as radiation, the arms race, and fear of nuclear threat in many countries.

President Truman made the brutal decision of dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Although the bombs were dropped on separate dates, the effects were drastic. President Truman's motive was to save as many lives as possible and end the war in the Pacific. He overlooked the fact that dropping "Little Boy" and "Fat Man" took the lives of many innocent Japanese civilians in the process. The bombs also caused radiation to linger and spread out with the wind to take the lives of those who have survived the attack. Many countries believed that they to keep up with the United States in the nuclear age, thus the arms race was born. countires relied on the saying that a countries power came from the amount of nuclear weapons they obtained. As a result, countries prepared for future attacks as fear grew amongst their citizens.
